Notice for Global Tender On
Internal Illumination

  1. Sealed tenders are invited from leading manufacturers of electrical light and related equipment and materials for designing and installing the best possible system to illuminate the galleries, stores, offices and laboratories located inside the Victoria Memorial. This includes both illumination of the objects, displayed in the galleries, by rigidly maintaining the recommended lux-level for museum-quality lighting, and also for illumination of decorative ceiling and other architectural designs inside the Memorial. The work involves
    (i) presentation of complete layout plan supported with technical details of wiring, lamp system, control system, monitoring for system failure and everything else related to it.
    (ii) laying of cables by designing suitable concealed ducting system or similar,
    (iii) actual installation of lighting equipment, control panels, monitoring system etc., on a turnkey basis.

  2. The offer should be made as per the latest development in the area of museum lighting such as Fibre-optic lighting system for illumination, computerised monitoring of system failure, elimination of UV and IR components and should also include specific ideas on how best to integrate the proposed system with the existing sources of natural light in the galleries and stores so that the light level of incident light on objects does not go beyond the prescribed limit.

  3. The offer should also include specific proposals for (a) safety measures (b) maintenance of the proposed system (under AMC) and cost involved thereof, (c) availability of spares and (d) training of Victoria Memorial staff for day-to-day maintenance.

  4. The interested manufacturing firms should also cite respective previous work-experience of designing and installing complete lighting systems for museums/other institutions and are required to submit their tender in sealed envelope marked "Proposals for Internal Illumination/VM" on top, on or before 30-09-1999.

  5. All payments for the work will be made in Indian Rupee and against bank guarantee or similar fiscal mechanism. As a matter of policy, the authorities would like to purchase/install the system and its components directly from the manufacturer(s) and without involving any agent and/or payment of any agency commission.

  6. The tender papers will be opened, in presence of interested parties or their authorised representatives, in the chamber of the Secretary & Curator on 01-10-1999 at 12.00 Noon.

Right to accept or reject a tender is reserved by the Memorial's authorities.
