National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai has been established as the technical arm to the Department of Ocean Development (DOD), Government of India with the objective of promoting technology development in various mission mode activities related to Ocean Engineering and Ocean Resources exploitations. The major missions of the institute at present are (i) Ocean Energy (ii) Deep Sea Technologies including Seabed Mining (iii) Coastal Zone and Environmental Engineering (iv) Marine Instrumentation and (v) Island Development. NIOT invites application from suitable candidates with excellent academic background and relevant experience in one or more areas of the following: Naval Architecture, Coastal Hydro-dynamics, Environmental Engineering, Hydrographic Survey, Marine Geophysics, Dredging, Riser and Cable Dynamics, Floating Offshore Structures, Underwater Structures, Underwater Equipment, Mechanical Design, Oil hydraulics, Heat Transfer, Ocean Energy, Fluid Machinery, Electronics and Communication Controls, Acoustics for Marine applications, Oceanographic Instrumentation Systems and Ocean Resource Survey instruments. The recruitment will be for filling up of existing vacancies for various cadres and also for operating a panel, discipline wise, for a period of one year from the date of advertisement. Based on the qualification and experience, the candidates will be considered for one of the following cadres. The functional designations will be given depending on the job descriptions:
Vessel Management Cell: NIOT has established a Vessel Management Cell for Management of two Coastal Research Vessels of 30-meter length with a capacity for eight scientists and ten crew members. The Coastal Research Vessels are being operated along the entire coastline of the country including A&N Lakshadweep Islands to carryout the studies related to monitoring of marine pollution as well as for coastal oceanography. For management of the above two vessels, NIOT invites application for the following post. The duties and responsibilities of the Manager, VMC include all management aspects of operation and maintenance of vessels, coordination between the Scientific team and the running crew, liaison with the operators, arrangements for ship repair/dry docking, maintenance of scientific instruments on board for successful implementation of cruise programmes. The incumbents will have to go on cruise whenever required.
