AJ College posts second win

Madurai: Ayya Nadar Janakiammal College (Sivakasi) and Sourashtra College (Madurai) recorded their second successive wins in the four-team league of the Madurai Kamaraj University championship cricket tournament defeating MSSWB College, Madurai by 59 runs and Arulmigu Palani Andavar Arts College, Palani by four wickets respectively here on Tuesday.

The scores:

AJ College (Sivakasi) 152 in 30 overs (Gokul 41) bt MSSWB College (Madurai) 93 in 23.2 overs (Pradeep Kumar 41 n.o., Paramasivam four for 24, Marisamy three for three); APA College (Palani) 97 in 24.4 overs (Sethuraman three for 19, Manikan dan three for 19) lost to Sourashtra College 98 for six in 23.2 overs (Pratheesh Kumar three for 14).

Big win for SIT

A brace each by Balaji and R. Satheesh and one goal by S. Satheesh helped Sethu Institute of Technology (Kariapatti) thrash host Alagappa Chettiar College of Engineering 5-0 in the Anna University zone X inter-engineering college hockey tournament at Karaikudi on Tuesday.

AUCPE triumphs

Host Alagappa University College of Physical Education (AUCPE) won the women’s title defeating Alagappa Government Arts College 29-5, 29-21, while Alagappa Government Arts College won the men’s title defeating AUCPE 29-9, 29-19 in the finals of the Alagappa University inter-collegiate ball-badminton tournament at Karaikudi on Tuesday.

Double for Manikandan

R. Manikandan of VMJ Matriculation School, who won the boys’ under-19 singles title earlier, went on to win the doubles title also, partnering Rahul Vignesh in the Madurai Educational District Badminton tournament organised by Mangayarkarasi HSS at Madurai on Monday.

The results (All finals): Boys U-19 doubles: R. Manikandan & Rahul Vignesh (VMJ MHSS) bt Saravanan Balaji & Sabareesh (Sethupathi HSS) 21-19, 22-20; U-14: B. Prasanth & I. Manis Niveth (Vikaasa) bt P.S. Karthik & M. San kar (Sourashtra HSS) 21-9, 21-14.

Girls: U-17 singles: S. Sujitha (St. Joseph’s GHSS) bt J. Sas (TVS MHSS) 21-9, 21-14.

Doubles: Suganya & Shabana (Govt. GHSS) bt S. Sujitha & N. Monisha (St. Joseph’s GHSS) 15-21, 21-19, 21-15; U-14: P. Priyanka & Jothi Lakshmi (Govt. GHSS) bt V.S. Priya Darshiny & A. Haseena (St . Joseph’s GHSS) 22-20, 21-19.
