AIIMS doctors go on indefinite strike
|
Against the delay in awarding degrees for past three years
|
NEW DELHI: Resident doctors of the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences here went on an indefinite strike on Tuesday night protesting against alleged delay in award of degrees for the past three years.
The strike began at 7 p.m. but the functioning of emergency services and ICU would not be affected, Anil Sharma, general secretary of the Resident Doctors’ Association, told PTI.
The doctors alleged that those who had cleared the MBBS, MD, DM and M.Ch. courses had not received their degrees for the past three years.
“Health Minister A. Ramadoss is not signing our degree papers and we demand immediate clearance of our papers,” Dr. Sharma alleged.
He claimed that this had caused “hardships” for doctors who were planning to go abroad for further studies and jobs.
“Foreign countries are demanding original certificates and we are not able to produce them. Thus many prospective candidates have lost an opportunity for higher studies,” said Dr. Sharma. – PTI.
