COLOMBO: The Tamil Tigers on Tuesday alleged that nine boys and five girls being taken to be handed over to their parents in Amparai district by the LTTE political division and the Child Protection Authority (CPA) were “ambushed” by security forces in Amparai district on Monday. The Defence Ministry, however, merely acknowledged that the STF troops confronted a group of “tiger terrorists”. As per the LTTE, the “underage youths” were being taken to a civilian area in accordance with an arrangement between the LTTE and the UNICEF. LTTE district political head of Amparai P. Kavaiyarasan told TamilNet that two of the boys had managed to return to an LTTE base after the ambush and the fate of the others is not known. Separately, the Defence Ministry, quoting “civilian sources” in Wanni, claimed that eight LTTE tax collectors had been executed by supporters of Pottu Amman, intelligence leader of the LTTE. The Ministry said Pottu Amman told the people that they had misappropriated funds of the outfit.
