PALANI: The State Government rewarded four rope car maintenance workers for their efforts in rescuing stranded pilgrims and treating the injured in the aftermath of Sunday’s rope car accident at the Palani Dhandayuthapaniswamy temple.
Sanjay from Haridwar, who was awarded Rs. 25,000, was the first worker to reach the site of the tragedy. He succeeded in saving the life of Ravikumar, one of the occupants of the car that crashed here on Sunday. Mr. Ravikumar is being treated at a Coimbatore hospital.
Three other workers — Brijo, Vakyatha and Azhagarswamy — were awarded Rs. 5,000 each for their rescue efforts. The team of workers worked for five hours till 9.30 pm on Sunday. to
