BANGALORE: An alert public on Wednesday chased and caught two persons who allegedly snatched a bag containing Rs. 60,000 from a senior citizen after diverting his attention in Jalahalli police station limits. The police said that around 11 a.m., Aaron, a retired BEL employee, withdrew Rs. 60,000 from the State Bank of India branch in Jalahalli. He put the cash in a bag and went to a nearby cafeteria to have coffee. A youth came up to Mr. Aaron and told him some oil had spilled on his shirt. While he started wiping the stains on his shirt, the youth snatched the bag and ran away. When Mr. Aaron raised an alarm, passers-by chased and caught the youth and his accomplice and handed them over to the police. The two were identified as Kishore (19), a mechanic, and Salmon (38), an autorickshaw driver, both from Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh. Their accomplice Gopi managed to escape, the police said. Burglars struck at a gas company’s distributor’s office in Basaveshwaranagar on Tuesday night and made away with Rs. 2.89 lakh cash. The police said the thieves had entered Hima Distributors on 5th Main, 2nd Block, 3rd Stage, Basaveshwaranagar, by breaking open a rear window. They had looted the money from a cash box. On a complaint by the manger of the agency, Ramesh Kumar, the Basaveshwaranagar police have registered a case. Recovered
The Fraser Town police arrested four persons on charge of robbery and recovered from them six gold chains and four motorcycles, all estimated at Rs. 3 lakh. The police gave their names as Santosh (24) of Hennur Cross, Sandeep (19) of Thomas Town, Santosh (31) of Hennur Cross and Arul Das (24) of Lingarajapuram. In another case, the Bharathinagar police have arrested Imtiyaz alias Shahruk Khan (31) of Devarajeevanahalli on charges of burglary and recovered from him gold and silver ornaments estimated at Rs. 3.50 lakh. The police said the accused had burgled four houses in Bharathinagar, Devarajeevanahalli and Kadugondanahalli police station limits. Dowry harassment
Latha, a homemaker and resident of Kurubarahalli, has lodged a complaint with the Basaveshwaranagar police that her husband Sudhakar Shetty and his brother Narayana Shetty were harassing her for dowry. Latha, who married gutka dealer Sudhakar in 2003, has complained that her husband and brother-in-law were torturing her to get Rs. 2 lakh from her parents as dowry. He has claimed that at the time of her marriage, her parents had given Rs. 2.5 lakh cash and gold ornaments as dowry to Sudhakar. DVDs seized
The Central Crime Branch staff on Wednesday raided a shop in Silver Jubilee Park police station limits and seized pirated DVDs and VCDs, together estimated at Rs. 1.08 lakh. The police, who have arrested an employee of the shop, were on the lookout for its proprietor Kamalesh.
