BU defers multiple choice questions system
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: The Academic Council of Bangalore University on Thursday decided to defer introduction of multiple choice question papers for undergraduate courses. The new system was scheduled to be introduced from 2008-09.
Raising the issue at the Academic Council meeting here, Vice-Chancellor H.A. Ranganath said more homework needed to be done before the new system was introduced.
“We should not jeopardise the academic career of thousands of students without evolving a comprehensive system,” he said.
The new system was proposed to be introduced for the even semesters – II, IV and VI – from 2008-09 and the Council had in principle agreed for the same in September 2006.
Odd semesters – I, III and V – would continue to have classical type of question papers.
However, courses like LLB., BE., and B. Ed., were not supposed to have multiple choice question papers.
The Task Force Committee comprising the principals, teachers’ associations and members of multiple choice question cell met on June 27 this year.
The committee resolved to organise workshops for each subject to facilitate the teachers concerned to have detailed discussion once again and evolve a suitable model of questions for their subjects.
