What they say

Savithri Vaithi

Savithri Vaithi, chairperson, Vishranthi:

Our charity home, run exclusively for women since 1978, has 108 senior women. The oldest of them is 108 years old. We have women who have lived here for 25 years. There is an increasing thought among senior citizens to take accommodation in an old age home due to the comforts it provides. This has led to a steep increase in the number of paid old-age homes in and around the city. Only a handful of organisations run such homes for charity, proving a mismatch between demand and supply. Though the physical needs of the elderly are well taken care of, their psychological needs also have to be attended to. Vocational training may be provided to persons living in these homes.
