SIVAKASI: The Tamil Nadu Fireworks and Amorces Manufacturers’ Association has urged the Southern Railway to introduce new trains to connect Tenkasi with Coimbatore, Rameswaram and Bangalore.
In a memorandum sent to the Southern Railway General Manager, its president, A.P. Selvarajan, said that thousands of students from Sivakasi, Rajapalayam, Srivilliputtur and Tenkasi are studying in Coimbatore. All the buses operated from Coimbatore to these towns are always over-crowded that warrant a rail connection in this sector. Stating that train service would be commercially viable, Mr. Selvarajan said it would be more useful to people if it is introduced as a night service.
The association also sought a link train for Tenkasi with Rameswaram and additional services between Chennai and Tenkasi.
