FOR BOOK LOVERS: The Chennai International Christian Book Fair that opened at Gurukul Theological College, Purasawalkam, on Thursday.
CHENNAI: Pink Bibles, green Bibles, glowing Bibles, water-resistant Bibles — the Chennai International Christian Book Fair that opened on Thursday offers a trendy collection to read the ‘Word of God’. The exhibition features about 500 varieties of Bibles to suit people of all ages — children, students, women and couples. Organised by the STL OM Books India, the fair has several attractions for the visitors. They include the display of a 123-year-old Bible and another so small in size that it could easily fit in a matchbox. The exhibition also features a voluminous Bible weighing 7 kg as well as another which is claimed to be the longest — 2,000 metres long when unfolded. The personalised Bible, featuring the buyer’s name instead of ‘I’ and ‘You’ in the verses, is already a big hit among the visitors. STL OM Books India director (retail division) Johnson George said, “These kinds of Bibles are printed in the US and made on orders.” The fair, where thousands of books are neatly lined up across the hall at Gurukul Theological College, Purasawalkam, showcases a wide variety of books, including fiction, Bible reference books and children’s literature under 10,000 titles. A set of 12 Bible commentary books for theological students by Warren W. Wiersbe is one of the fast-sellers. The children’s section also has several new additions. The playset with Biblical characters and soft toys attached with small books is an attraction for children. The exhibition also showcases music compact discs and second-hand books. Inspector General of Police (Social Justice and Human Rights) Prateep V. Philip and STL OM Books India director K.J. Johnny participated in the inauguration ceremony. The exhibition will be conducted till August 18.
