BANGALORE: With the Chief Minister giving no further date for a meeting after cancellation of Monday’s scheduled meeting, truck operators carrying sand, jelly and other construction material have decided to intensify the agitation. If the Government did not resolve the demands of truckers within four days, all truck operators in the State would be forced to join the strike, said B.V. Narayanappa, general secretary of the Federation of Karnataka State Lorry Owners’ and Agents’ Association. He said 5,000 trucks carrying construction material were off the road in Bangalore and representatives of all the 18 truck stands in Bangalore had decided to continue the agitation. In the event of the entire trucker fraternity joining the agitation, over 2.5 lakh trucks would be off the road. He said though the federation was aware of constraints being faced by the Government, the operators, who were fed-up with police harassment, had insisted on launching the agitation, he said. While truck operators associated with B. Channa Reddy’s Federation of Karnataka Lorry Owners’ Association launched the strike from August 2, those associated with G.R. Shanmugappa’s Federation of Karnataka State Lorry Owners’ and Agents’ Association began the strike from August 6.
