Raja, Shilpa triumph

Coimbatore: R.S. Raja of SSN Engineering College (Chennai) and Shilpa of PSG College of Arts and Science, as expected, wrested the singles titles for men and women respectively in the State-level inter collegiate table tennis tournament at the PSGCAS Hall here on Tuesday.

Raja scored a hard-fought 11-4, 11-7, 10-12, 11-8, 6-11, 14-12 win over fancied Abishek from Loyola College (Chennai), while Shilpa ousted college-mate Amirtha Raj with relative ease 11-2, 11-7, 11-3.

The results: Men (final): R.S. Raja (SSN EC, Chennai) bt Abishek (Loyola, Chennai) 11-4, 11-7, 10-12, 11-8, 6-11, 14-12. Semifinals: Abishek bt Adithya Narasimhan (Loyola) 11-8, 11-6, 11-6, 14-12; R.S. Raja bt Kalvat h (Loyola) 11-3, 11-6, 11-7, 11-6.

Doubles (final): Abishek / Sivanandha Sheshadri (Loyola) bt Manoranjan Singh / Sivakumar (PSGCAS) 11-4, 11-7, 11-3.

Women (final): Shilpa (PSGCAS) bt Amirtha Raja (PSGCAS) 11-2, 11-7, 11-3.

Montfort wins title

Host Montfort School (Yercaud) and St. Patrick’s AIHSS (Chennai) clinched the overall championship for boys and girls in the State level Anglo Indian inter school athletic meet at the Yercaud Montfort School recently.

R. Thanga Prabhu of Montfort and G. Gayathry of St. Ursula’s AIHSS (Chennai) were declared the best athletes of the meet.

The meet, held after a gap of four years, attracted more than 800 athletes from 26 Anglo Indian schools in Tamil Nadu.

Final results: Boys: Overall championship: 1. Montfort School (Yercaud) 86 pts, 2. St. Bede’s AIHSS (Chennai) 62 pts, 3. St. Patrick’s AIHSS (Chennai).

Individual championship: Sub-juniors: P. Vignesh Prabhu (St. Bede’s AIHSS) 10 pts. Juniors: Sakthi Kumar (Montfort) 11 pts. Seniors: R. Thanga Prabhu (Montfort) 15 pts. Super seniors: V.B. Pr anav (St. Bede’s AIHSS) 11 pts. Best athlete: Thanga Prabhu.

Girls: Overall championship: 1. St. Patrick’s 89 pts, 2. St. Ursula’s AIHSS (Chennai) 58 pts, 3. Stanes AIHSS (Coimbatore) 53 pts.

Individual championship: Sub-juniors: M. Emimal (St. Joseph’s AIHSS, Chennai), Rochelle Maria (St. Columbian HSS, Chennai), Vishnudarshini (Sacred Heart AIHSS, Yercaud) 11 pts. Juniors: S.A. Shree Sanjana (Stan es AIHS, Coimbatore) 10 pts. Seniors: E. Janani (St. Patrick’s) & Christina Durand (St. Patrick’s) 11 pts. Super seniors: G. Gayathry (St. Ursula’s). Best athlete: G.
