Naveen in fourth round

Sivakasi: M. Naveen of Cuddalore moved into the boys’ singles fourth round defeating M. Jaison of Madurai 21-10, 21-7 in the Tamil Nadu State sub-junior badminton championship at A.J. Stadium, Sivakasi, on Tuesday.

The results: Boys: u-13 singles: M. Naveen bt M. Jaison 21-10, 21-5; R.N. Harshan bt R. Arun Prasath 21-9, 21-5; Karan Rajan bt S.A. Sourashtra College wins

Sourashtra College won the men’s team title, while SRNM College, Sattur, won the women’s team title with all-win records in their respective leagues (four teams) in the Madurai Kamaraj University champion Trophy inter-collegiate badminton tournament at Madurai, on Tuesday.

The results: Men (league): Sourashtra College bt Wakfboard College 3-2; Sourashtra College bt Kalasalingam College of Arts and Science 3-1; Sourashtra College bt Arul Anandar College, Karumathur 3-0. Wakfboard College bt Kalasalingam C ollege of Arts and Science 3-1; Wakfboard College bt Arul Anandar College 3-0. Kalasalingam College of Arts and Science 3-0.

Title for Nagarjuna

A. Nagarjuna of Sivakasi Jaycees MHSS won the State-level open chess tournament organised by Meenakshi Chess Centre at Madurai on Sunday.

Nagarjuna and S.S. Manigandan of Dolphin School tied with 7 points each but Nagarjuna was placed first on progressive score.

Final placings:

1-2: A. Nagarjuna, S.S. Manigandan 7 pts; 3-4: M.K. Alaguraja (Chanakya), Ilaya Bharathi (Dolphin) 6.5; 5-8: A. Ravishankar (Srinari Chess Academy), S. Ganesh Babu (Thiagarajar College), S. St. Lassle claims title

St. Lassle HSS won the super-senior title, while SAV HSS won the senior title in boys section in the 17th annual Tuticorin District-schools volleyball championship for Gymkhana Trophy at Tuticorin recently.

The results:

Super-seniors: Final: St. Lassale HSS bt Caldwell HSS 25-21, 25-20.

Seniors: Final: SAV HSS bt Caldwell HSS 25-14, 19-25, 25-21.

Mepco takes crown

Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi, won the men’s team title in the Anna University zone X inter-engineering college badminton tournament defeating Noorul Islam College, Nagercoil 3-0 at GCE ground, Tirunelveli, on Sunday.
