VISAKHAPATNAM: A team of MLAs belonging to the opposition parties will be visiting the agency area in the district where the Government is planning to take up bauxite mining, the site for the propose alumina refinery in S. Kota mandal in Vizianagaram district and site of some other projects, on August 13 and 14. The Anti-Bauxite and River Waters Protection Struggle Committee is arranging the visit by the opposition MLAs to explain to them the disastrous consequences the people of north coastal Andhra would face due to bauxite mining and alumina refinery. “The visit by opposition MLAs from across the State is drawn up to increase pressure on the Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Government which is hell bent on going ahead with mining and refinery in spite of total opposition to them from the plains people, Girijans, political parties, people’s organisations, human rights organisations, intelligentsia, NGOs and others”, Chodavaram MLA and convenor of the struggle committee Ganta Srinivasa Rao said on Monday. Minister Konathala Ramakrishna and his party MLAs were keen to implement the projects and making efforts in this direction. Mr. Ramakrishna would not comment on opposition to the projects but helping the Jindal and Rus-al-Khaima companies to secure the necessary approvals to set up refineries. He was not concerned about the great difficulties the people would face , alleged Mr. Srinivasa Rao.
