Table Tennis
BANGaLORE: The Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) will send a 24-member Indian junior squad for an exposure tour of China next week. The team will attend a training camp organised by the Chinese Table Tennis Federation from August 7 to 20 before playing the Talyuan international junior championship, an ITTF World junior circuit tour event, from August 22 26 at Talyuan. The former National doubles champion and State singles champion, G.K. Vishwanath of Karnataka, will be the chief coach of the team. In a chat with The Hindu here, Vishwanath said, “I look forward to this assignment. “I last went as a coach of a similar team which included Soumyadeep Roy and Subahjith Saha in 1994. “The training session that had been planned by Chinese federation would immensely benefit our players as they would be sparring with some of the top juniors in China under the direct supervision of few former National champions of China,” he said. Vishwanath, who was credited with a formidable backhand in the business during his prime, now runs a popular training centre in here named the Match Point Academy. — Special Correspondent
