Sorrow for Joy

THIRUVANANTAHPURAM: Defending champion and second seed, Joy T. Antony, crashed out of the T.K.V. memorial all-Kerala ranking badminton tournament at the Jimmy George Indoor Stadium here on Saturday.

Unseeded local boy, V. Arun, stunned Joy 22-20, 21-13 in the pre-quarterfinals. Joy found the going tough against a determined opponent who lifted his game a few notches. After losing a close first set, Joy’s game was in disarray in the second set as he made a string of errors which made it easier for Arun.

However, form played true in other matches as all the seeds made into the quarterfinals without much fuss.

Top seed, Sanave Thomas, K.A. Aneesh, Sankar P. Gopan and H.S. Pronoy took their places in the last-eight.
