Ludhiana to host football Federation Cup

New Delhi: Punjab will host the 29th Federation Cup football tournament scheduled next month.

“The tournament will be played at Guru Nanak Stadium, Ludhiana from September 4 to 15,” AIFF said in a release here on Saturday.

Guwahati, Cuttack and Calicut were the other centres vying to host the event and All India Football Federation inspected the ground conditions and other facilities at all the venues before awarding the tournament to Ludhiana.

Mohun Bagan is the defending champions for next month’s event. It had beaten Dempo Sports Club, Goa, in the final of the last edition of the tournament in Kolkata.

Altogether 16 teams will play in the premier knockout tournament. Apart from the 10 teams from the top division of the National Football League, six from the lower leagues will also play in the Federation Cup.

The draw will be finalised after all the teams are identified. — PTI
