Easy seven-wicket victory for KSCA XI

Bangalore: Host KSCA XI breezed to a seven-wicket victory over Kerala CA in a KSCA all-India invitation cricket tournament match that concluded at the Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Saturday.

Chasing Kerala CA’s 171, KSCA XI thrived on opener K.B. Pawan’s unbeaten 80 (157b, 8x4, 1x6) to cruise past the target in the afternoon.

In another match at the RSI Ground, KSCA Colts defeated Baroda CA by seven wickets. Trailing Baroda CA’s 207, KSCA Colts scored the winning runs in 50 overs with Stuart Binny leading the charge with an 81.

In the other two matches, rain played truant and forced draws as the second and final day’s play was truncated.

At the JIRS Ground, ONGC stretched its overnight total to 316 and Indian Airlines replied with 308 for six in 64 overs with Shafiq Khan chipping in with 91.

Meanwhile, at the IAF Ground, Hyderabad scored 231 for four in reply to KSCA President’s XI’s 282 when a heavy downpour drew in the curtains.

Sunday is a rest day and the tournament will resume on Monday.

BEL posts win

BEL posted its first victory, an impressive one, even though against a weak ADE in the Super Division football league for the George Hoover Cup.

At the Football Stadium here on Saturday, even as the title has been decided in favour of MEG, BEL, led by Jenny Freddy, cruised through by a 3-0 margin.

Earlier, HASC got into its winning ways with a 4-0 rout of LRDE. LRDE and ADE are stacked at the bottom with just three points to show even as ADE have two matches in hand, while LRDE has just one.

BEL went all out for a win and struck in the ninth minute through Aravind who slipped home a Jayavardhan pass even as Dilipen in the ADE goal looked uncertain.

Aravind once again was on target as he neatly flicked a Srinivas Murthy square into the far corner. Both goals came in the first session.

Put through by a hard working Musharaf, Stephen slid the ball past an advancing Dilipen to complete the tally in the 80th minute.

HASC, having missed its chances against the promoted Postal in the earlier outing and with it a chance to regain the George Hoover Cup, humbled LRDE 4-0 with goals coming from Alesh (23rd), Xavier Vijaya Kumar (35th), Kuttimani (61st) and Karthikeyan (65th). HASC has 12 points from six matches, while BEL now has seven points from eight outings.
