Virtual driving: Joint Transport Commissioner C.L.N. Gandhi trying the driving simulator on Saturday.
HYDERABAD: Training on driving simulators could soon become mandatory for driving licence applicants. The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has made an appeal to Central Government for amendment of the Central Motor Vehicles rules to this effect. In a presentation programme on the new technology-‘Tecknosim’ driving simulators- here on Saturday, Joint Transport Commissioner C. L. N Gandhi said High Court issued orders two years ago to provide training to heavy vehicle driving licence applicants on simulators. But with dearth of suppliers, the orders were not implemented and now with many suppliers, including public and private organisations willing to supply, RTA was seriously considering to implement the system for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers, he said. Monitoring progress
Tecknosim, a state-of-the-art driving simulator consists of an instructor station to monitor the drivers’ progress throughout the training period and gives a performance report at the end. Equipped with three LCD screens or a single large projector screen, the simulator provides 180 degree immersive driving environment with realistic audio experience.
