Monorail consultants to be finalised in August

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: The appointment of technical consultants scheduled to monitor the monorail project will be finalised next month. The project will be executed on a public-private partnership (PPP) model, Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has said.

In reply to a question by Dinesh Gundu Rao (Congress), in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, Mr. Kumaraswamy said two consortiums had been short-listed as consultants for the project. Initially, five consortiums had submitted proposals in response to the tender floated by Bangalore Metro Rail Transport Corporation Limited (BMRCL).

The Government would operate monorail as a feeder service to the proposed 38-km network of the Metro Rail.

The following corridors have been identified for operating the monorail service: Corridor I – from Kanakapura Road to Mysore Road Junction with a T connection from Kathriguppe to National College. Corridor II – from Bannerghatta National Park to Adugodi. Corridor III – from Jnanabharathi to Mysore Road (Outer Ring Road) with a T connection to Toll Gate on Magadi Road. Corridor IV – from Tumkur Road on Outer Ring Road to Bellary Road.

The BMRCL had been entrusted with the responsibility of implementing the monorail project in addition to the Metro, he said.

R. Roshan Baig, V. Somanna, N.L. Narendra Babu (all Congress) urged the Chief Minister to expedite work on road projects in the city to help decongest traffic. .

Land recovered

Replying to Mr. Somanna, the Chief Minister said the Government had recovered 152 acres and 13 guntas of land belonging to the Bangalore Development Authority, which had been encroached upon since 2004-05. Of this, 11 acres and 22 guntas had been auctioned, which fetched Rs. 90.26 crore. On the remaining land, the BDA had formed housing sites.
