B.V. Karanth museum in Mysore soon

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: The State Government will establish an exclusive museum that reflects the contribution of the theatre person the late B.V. Karanth at the Mysore-based Rangayana theatre repertory.

This was disclosed to presspersons by Minister for Kannada and Culture H.S. Mahadeva Prasad, after holding talks with Prema Karanth, wife of the late Karanth, at her residence here on Wednesday.

Maintaining a range of theatre properties and a vast library of over 15, 000 books left behind by the late Karanth was a difficult task for any individual. Besides, such material would form a part of the history of the Kannada theatre also. Therefore, the State Government was keen on protecting them at Rangayana, a brainchild of the late Karanth, Mr. Prasad said.

The Government would consider the request of theatre lovers to rename Mysore’s Kalamandira auditorium after B.V. Karanth and extend financial assistance to the B.V. Karanth trust for the cause of culture, he added.

The Government would work out modalities and other details for establishing the museum soon, he said.
