CHENNAI: Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S. Ramadoss on Friday urged the State Government to order closure of retail shops owned by multinational companies, including Reliance Retail, to protect small traders.
In a statement here, he said around 6 lakh people were involved in retail trade in the State. The party had been agitating against the MNCs and demanding the Government cancel the licence of shops set up by them.
He cited the example of Kerala where the Government had decided not to give fresh licence to retail chains opening their units.
The Tamil Nadu Government too should instruct local bodies not to give fresh licences to such shops.
The Government should prohibit these MNCs from selling food and other essential articles. — Special Correspondent
