Water level

The level in the Periyar dam stood at 108.40 feet (full level 136 feet) with no inflow and discharge on Monday. The level in the Vaigai dam was 25.75 feet (full level 71 feet) with no inflow and a discharge of 41 cusecs. The combined Periyar credit stood at 617 mcft. Sothuparai dam recorded 45 mm of rainfall followed by Kallandiri 9, Vaigai dam 7 and Andipatti 5.

Couple commits suicide

A couple allegedly committed suicide at Chekkanoorani near here on Monday. According to police sources, P. Karuppiah (27) and his wife K. Muniammal (22) of Muthukrishnapuram Colony consumed poison at their residence and succumbed within a few hours. Family problems forced them to take the extreme step, the sources said. An enquiry by a Revenue Divisional Officer has been ordered into the incident. The Chekkanoorani police have registered a case and are investigating. — Staff Reporter
