CHENNAI: Producer of `Guru' and director Mani Ratnam's brother, G. Srinivasan, died on Sunday in a trekking accident in Manali. He was 48 years old.

According to family sources, Srinivasan lost his balance and fell to his death. A PTI report says he was with his wife Sandhya and daughter Shreya when the incident happened. It says he slipped into a 50-foot gorge while trekking at Halan (14 km from Manali). The body was retrieved at about 2 p.m., three hours after the incident took place.

The producer was holidaying in Manali with his family for the last 10 days. His body will be brought to Chennai for the last rites by Monday. Mani Ratnam and wife Suhasini are expected to be back in the city on Monday night from Madrid, where they are attending a retrospective of his films, after attending the screening of `Guru' at the Cannes film festival. Srinivasan's sister Sundari, who was visiting her son in the United States, is also expected back.

Srinivasan is survived by his siblings Mani Ratnam, Sundari, wife Sandhya and three daughters Shreya, Akshaya and Divya. His eldest brother G. Venkateswaran died under tragic circumstances in 2003.

Srinivasan and Ratnam co-founded production company Madras Talkies that produced highly acclaimed films including Iruvar, Dil Se, Kannathil Muthamittal and Yuva. He was also a practising chartered accountant.
