CHENNAI : In a bid to speed up the road widening and blacktopping work in Ambattur, the local body has resumed its encroachment removal drive. On Thursday, parts of 33 commercial and industrial establishments that encroached 30 feet to 50 feet on Menambedu Road at Ambattur industrial estate were bulldozed to facilitate free flow of traffic.
Potholes
Blacktopping the road filled with potholes is a long pending demand of the motorists and industrial unit owners. Motorists say plying on the damaged stretch was an uphill task, particularly during monsoon. An official of Ambattur Municipality said several commercial establishments had encroached on almost half of the road space. Road laying work would be started in a few days. The local body removed about 150 structures that encroached on road space at various places, including Mounasamy Road at Ambattur and Wavin Road, Spartan Road at Mogappair in the past ten days.
Razed down
Parts of the shops that encroached road space near Ambattur OT bus terminus was also razed down last week. The municipality plans to remove encroachments at TVS Colony, Officers' Colony and Kumaran Nagar in Mogappair next week. Several complaints about structures that have been built on storm water drain were under scrunity and action would be taken shortly, the official added.
