Special Correspondent

Entrance test to be held on July 26

  • A finishing school is already coming up in Mysore
  • Intake of Bangalore school will be double that of Mysore school

BANGALORE: The country's IT capital Bangalore too will have an IT finishing school, which is the second such school to be established in the country. The Government has already announced that the country's first ever IT finishing school will be set up in Mysore next month.

Disclosing this to presspersons on the sidelines of a workshop on the Asia-Invest Project jointly organised by the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) and Indo-Italian Chambers of Commerce in Bangalore on Thursday, Karnataka's IT and BT secretary Vidyashankar said the IT finishing school in Bangalore was likely to be set up in August.

Both the schools will offer one-year diploma course in software programming to the engineering graduates interested in joining the IT sector.

The entrance test for the proposed Bangalore Finishing School will be held on July 26.

The intake of the Bangalore school will be double that of the Mysore school. As many as 10,000 students will be admitted to the Bangalore school this year. The intake will be increased to 25,000 next year and doubled to 50,000 in the next two years, he said.

The selected students will be assured of placements in software companies. The course fee would be around Rs. 75,000.

Banks had come forward to extended complete loan assistance to the students who get admission to these finishing schools.

The proposed IT finishing school in Bangalore will be set up by the Dayananda Sagar Educational Institutions while the Government will facilitate the setting up of the institution. The finishing schools would be run by the industries themselves. The entrance test for the Mysore IT finishing school is being held on June 3.

The finishing schools were being set up as a survey had shown that nearly 30 per cent of the engineering graduates, especially the IT graduates, were not in an employable position as they needed to upgrade their skills, Mr. Vidyashankar explained.
