Developer for Knowledge City to be identified in 10 days

32 global firms have responded to the tender to implement the project

BANGALORE: The process of establishing the Knowledge City in Bidadi will soon commence with the State Government set to identify the developer in about 10 days, according to IT and BT Secretary Vidyashankar.

Mr. Vidyashankar told the inaugural session of a two-day workshop on the Asia-Invest Project jointly organised by the Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) and Indo-Italian Chambers of Commerce in Bangalore on Thursday, that the project would be completed within 36 months of commencement of work.

He said 32 global companies had responded to the Government's tender to implement the above project. The proposed knowledge city in Bidadi would have a total area of 9,684 acres of land including 2,725 acres of government land. The Government intended to hand over the required land to the developer by the end of July so that the work could be taken up at the earliest, he noted. The proposed Knowledge City would be earmarked only for the IT and ITES industries. It would have 25 per cent of the total space earmarked for industries and another 25 per cent for residential purposes.

Similarly, 15 per cent of the space would be used for development of parks and providing greenery, he explained.

Speaking on the occasion, FKCCI president R.C. Purohit pointed out that the intensive one-to-one B2B meetings between Indian companies and the visiting European Union firms had been scheduled along with the workshop.
