Bangalore: Commissioner of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike K. Jairaj on Monday held a meeting with all Zonal Joint Commissioners and chalked out a pre-monsoon contingency programme for the city. He directed them to identify the vulnerable spots susceptible to water logging and flooding in each ward, execute emergency work such as clearing storm water drains, removing obstructions and encroachments on drains, strengthen the walls of the drain, etc. The officials have been directed to clear all drain-mouth/ shoulder drains on arterial/sub-arterial roads, close all footpath excavations to prevent water logging, survey and identify old trees that are likely to fall and remove them. The Commissioner instructed them to get all the manholes cleared and ensure that they are covered, establish control rooms in all the zones and station a mobile team to keep a watch over the vulnerable spots. After the rains, the Joint Commissioners, Chief Engineers, and Executive Engineers are to inspect the vulnerable sites to ensure proper follow-up action. The Assistant Engineers and Executive Engineers have been directed to take up road inspection every morning to ensure that there are no potholes.
