Reduce bus fares for senior citizens Sir, The State Budget has not addressed the long-standing plea of senior citizens to reduce the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus fares. The fares, which have been increased considerably over the past few years, have hit this class, particularly non-pensioners. A large number of senior citizens are unable to travel in buses, being physically weak, and some travel only when they have to. The Government should be magnanimous towards senior citizens and allow them to travel at a concession of at least 40 per cent in KSRTC buses and 60 per cent in BMTC buses.
N.G. Vadiraj,
Provide streetlights Sir, Despite bringing it to the notice of the authorities concerned several times, streetlights have not been provided at Herohalli Cross on Bangalore-Magadi Main Road. There is heavy traffic on this road and accidents can occur at night, as there are no streetlights. The authorities are requested to provide streetlights at the Herohalli Cross and between Herohalli and Andhrahalli Circle at the earliest.
G.T. Muralidhara,
Regularisation of services Sir, The decision of the Government to regularise the services of temporary teachers on an age-cum-merit basis is commendable. This will be of immense help to teachers who have crossed the age limit prescribed for recruitment. The move to confirm the services of non-teaching staff appointed in aided schools prior to 1992 is also appreciated.
R. Prahlad Rao,
Extend bus service Sir, I request the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation authorities to extend the service of buses, route number 43 C and 43 D, which ends at Veerabhadra Nagar, to P.S. Reddy Layout. It is difficult for women, children and senior citizens to alight at Veerabhadra Nagar and walk nearly 2 km to places such as P.S. Reddy Layout and Pramada Housing Society, as there is no bus service.
