BANGALORE: M.F. Saldanha, former judge of the High Court of Karnataka, has expressed distress over the plans to change the M.G. Road promenade to facilitate the safety of Metro Rail. He has sought the intervention of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy. In a statement, Mr. Saldanha said: "Come this Monday, if the Managing Director of Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. can have his way, the green areas of the M.G. Road promenade will be hacked to pieces... these are heritage areas and can never be destroyed. I have looked after this tree (an 87-year-old bougainvillea at the Anil Kumble Circle) and it brings tears to my eyes to think of what is likely to happen. I had also planted an avenue of Pride of India Trees which are in bloom. If the Chief Minister does not intervene and stop this destruction, it will lead to an open confrontation."
