Essay contest deadline

CHENNAI: The District Collectorate has announced that the date for submission of contributions to the essay and poetry competitions organised as part of Dr. Ambedkar's birth anniversary celebrations has been extended up to Friday. The earlier deadline was April 9.

Free eye camp

Hindu Mission Hospital conducted a free eye camp on Wednesday at Krishna Nagar in Tambaram in which 121 people were screened for eye ailments. Fifteen people have been referred for intra-ocular lens implant surgery.

Air-conditioners donated

The Rotary Club of Madras Esplanade donated six split air-conditioners to the operation theatres in the urology department of the Government General Hospital on Wednesday. President of the club, Murali R. Rao, Head of Urology Department, A. Balakrishnan and Hospital Superintendent Jeyaraman participated.

Graduation Day celebrated

Shree Motilal Kanhaiyalal Fomra Institute of Technology celebrated its Graduation Day recently. Anna University Vice-Chancellor D. Viswanathan participated.

In the 2005-06 academic year, 123 students from various streams graduated. Twenty students passed with distinction.

Workshop for

self-help groups

A three-day workshop on empowering women belonging to self-help groups through community radio began on Wednesday. It is being organised by the Department of Media Sciences, College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University. They will prepare a live programme from Irandamkattalai near Kunrathur on Friday. At the end of the workshop, each of the 50 participants will be able to run an hour-long show independently.

Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre Executive Director P. Iyamperumal, Nalamdana executive trustee Nithya Balaji, and former director of All India Radio S. Venugopal Reddy participated.
