CHENNAI
: Police on Wednesday arrested a couple on charges of cheating public sector banks of Rs 55 lakh.
A city court has remanded them to judicial custody.
The arrests followed a complaint of cheating from an Indian Overseas Bank manager. Police said D Ramdas (43) and his wife R Savithri (35) of Shankarlal Jain Street, Chromepet, had taken a Rs 15-lakh loan from the bank for manufacture of mineral water by submitting fake documents.
It was found that the couple had taken similar loans from other banks and not repaid them.
Their total borrowings stood at Rs 55 lakh. The couple had been detained in the central prisons in the past, a press release said.
