Teachers will become facilitators: IIT Director
Staff Reporter
TAMBARAM
: With the Information Technology revolution changing the face of education, teachers in future will be facilitators, with computers playing a bigger role in teaching students in their classrooms and homes, M. S. Ananth, Director, IIT, Chennai, said on Wednesday.
Addressing the second Graduation Day and the sixth College Day of Mohamed Sathak A. J. College of Engineering, Mr. Ananth said character could be a casualty in such a scenario. "Face-to-face contact with the teacher helps in character-building," he said.
He pointed out that India had earned the respect and attention of other countries mainly because of its ability to succeed the "hard way out" after taking wise decisions.
India's achievements in defence, atomic energy and space were extraordinary considering the minimal budgets allotted, Mr. Ananth said and asked students to face the world "not as arrogant Indians, but proud Indians." He also distributed certificates and medals to the graduates.
Mohamed Sathak Trust chairman S. M. Hamid Abdul Quadir and secretary S. M. Kabeer and the college principal K.Abdul Ghani were also present.
