REMAKE: Dhanush and Archana in `Parattai engira Azhagusundaram'

CHENNAI: There is one film that superstar Rajinikanth longed to act in, but could not.

Kollywood buzz has it that the superstar was so impressed with the Kannada film "Johi" that he wanted to do a Tamil remake.

He even planned to act in the lead role. Then, "Chandramukhi" happened.

However, the superstar did not let up on the `Johi' remake idea. On his advice, Kothandaramaiah (KR) of K.R.Infotainment bought the rights of the Kannada film. But, by then, Rajinikanth was involved in the `Sivaji' project.

It was eventually decided that Dhanush would step into the lead role for `Johi'.

The film, "Parattai Engira Azhagusundaram", offers Dhanush a wide scope for performance ... . as a villager, urbane youth, and as an Iyengar man.

The film is also significant for featuring two `Urvasi' award-winners in actor Archana and Meera Jasmine.

In fact, Meera Jasmine, who is paired opposite Dhanush, has asked producer K.R.Yogesh to provide a life size photograph of her in the Meera get-up.

The film is directed by Suresh Krishna. Yuvan Shankar Raja scores the music.

The audio is to be released on the Tamil New Year Day.
