`Probe nursing students' complaints'

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday directed the Director-General of Police, Corps of Detectives (CoD), to investigate into the alleged complaints of assault by anti-social elements on nursing students. The court modified its order of March 23 asking the Commissioner of Police, Bangalore, to investigate the incident.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Justice Ajit G. Gunjal modified the order after the government advocate brought to the notice of the court that the Commissioner of Police did not have the jurisdiction on the matter to investigate the case. The Bench had passed the orders after it received letters from the students of two institutions on Thursday stating that they were assaulted by anti-socials hired by the managements and locked up in the hostel. In their letter, the students said they had sought for a change in the institution because theirs had no sufficient infrastructure.
