Ansal Bhawan back in business
It was around 2-30 p.m. on Thursday that the fire had started in one of the rooms on the first floor of the building on Kasturba Gandhi Marg. Though the fire was completely doused within half-an-hour, work in the offices, including those of The Hindu, was disrupted since the power supply had been cut off as a precautionary measure. While access to the offices had been allowed on Thursday evening, in the absence of power supply their operations were greatly hampered. However, the power supply being restored around 11-30 a.m. on Friday, life at Ansal Bhawan returned to normality.
Nigerian national arrested
The police said the complainant, Vineet Pandey, took part in an online lottery. Thereafter on February 25 Vineet received an e-mail congratulating him and saying that he had won the lottery worth $ 1 million. A few days later, the accused, Ajobi Yakovie alias William, approached Vineet as the executive of the lottery site and demanded Rs. 52,000 as transaction fees. The complainant allegedly paid him Rs. 25,000 but never got the promised amount. Ajobi was traced through his mobile phone and arrested from Hauz Khas.
Alleged suicide by PNB employee
The police said Bipan Kumar jumped off the 10th floor of a residential building at Sanjivani Apartments.
National seminar on disability
The four-day national seminar, jointly organised by the Society for Disability and Rehabilitation Studies (SDRS) and Social Action and Research Foundation (SARF), was inaugurated by Rajya Sabha MP Najma Heptulla on Thursday. The speakers opined that the ideal way of empowering women with disabilities would be to promote rights-based perspective of disability.
