`Need to make women self-reliant'

NEW DELHI: Delhi Assembly Speaker Prem Singh on Friday emphasised the need for cooperation from all sections of society to help make women self-reliant both socially and economically.

Speaking at a function here to mark International Women's Day, Mr. Singh lamented that women in the country had been subjected to social, mental and economic harassment through centuries through denial of social respect and proper education.

He regretted that there were instances where women were not even allowed to participate in religious rites and rituals
