VISAKHAPATNAM: A seminar and exhibition on consumer awareness was organised by the Consumer Club at the Visakha Government Degree College for Women on Wednesday.

President of the State Consumer Redressal Commission Justice I. Venkatanarayana was the chief guest at the occasion.

He told students that every individual from the President of the country to the ordinary citizen is a consumer.

It is important for people to be aware about consumer rights and protect themselves from exploitation by business people. Chit funds, real estate, insurance, medical services, weights and measures come under the consumer protection Act.

Principal of the college, B.V. Appala Naidu presided over the function and advised the students to take an active part in creating consumer awareness among the public. Member of APSCORC, G. Bhoopathy Reddy and Registrar P. Jagannadha Rao, president of the Consumer Forum, Y. Dhilleswara Rao, and president of the Consumer Forum-II, N. Sarojini Naidu explained the efforts of the consumer commission and the consumer forums.

They spoke on the various procedures to seek justice through numerous examples. Convenor of the Consumer Club D.Y.N. Varma, K. Rajeswari, K. Pamela Thomas, M. Sudarsana Rao, K. Vasantha Rao and J.V.V.S.N. Murthy also participated in the seminar.
