CBI teams question Noida victims' kin

Staff Reporter

Agency is also looking into alleged lapses on the part of the local police

NOIDA: After two days of search for the skeletal remains of missing children near the house of Moninder Singh here, the Central Bureau of Investigation on Sunday questioned the family members of the victims.

They were summoned in groups of three and questioned separately by six CBI teams comprising four members each.

They were asked to narrate the sequence of events after their children went missing. Photographs of the children and copies of the First Information Reports and complaints were collected from the families.

The relatives, mostly parents of the victims, were also asked about the Noida police's conduct towards their complaints and the police officers who they suspect could have shielded the accused. The villagers alleged that the police were reluctant in registering FIRs. The CBI is also looking into the alleged lapses on the part of the local police. Family members and relatives of the victims held a candle light vigil at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. They accused the Noida police of shoddy investigations and demanded a report from the Uttar Pradesh Government before it was handed over to the CBI. Further, the protesters alleged that the State Government was trying to hide facts.

Two Delhi-based non-government organisations, Parivartan and Josh, participated in the protest. Social activist Swami Agnivesh was also present.

PTI reports: With hundreds of onlookers turning up outside the residence of Moninder, Noida police have roped in additional Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) personnel to assist in maintaining law and order. The local police presence has been reduced considerably and replaced with PAC, a reserve force.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Noida) R K S Rathore said: ``Local police have to take care of other responsibilities as well. So we have deployed PAC..''
