I-T raids yield Rs.5.16 crore

KOCHI: The investigation wing of Income Tax Department, Kerala, has conducted raids on 12 tax-payers during the year till November 15 and unearthed unaccounted assets worth Rs.5.16 crore. This includes Rs.2.40 crore in cash, Rs.1.14 crore worth of jewellery and Rs.1.62 crore worth of fixed deposits, Kisan Vikas Patra etc, said a press release here. The places raided include bar hotels, private nursing homes, quarry and rice mill, plywood and glass businesses, etc. Gold ornaments weighing 7,200 grams were seized from a person carrying it without any documents. Unaccounted jewellery worth Rs.20.70 lakh and FDs of Rs.30 lakh were seized from some of the doctors running private nursing homes.
