Three detained under Goondas Act

Chennai : Three men arrested on October 13 for cheating villagers of their money have been detained under the Goondas Act for a year. Police said Joseph Solomon, Jedi Solomon and Issac Samuel arrested last month on charges of duping villagers in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, of Rs. 7.5 crore, were detained under the Goondas Act because of the nature of threats they made to villagers.

The three men and the first accused, Satyaseelan who is absconding, had collected money from villagers through their organisation, Weaker Sections Development Service Trust. The police had registered seven cases against them based on complaints received.

Cheating case

Central Crime Branch police have arrested a person belonging to Chittoor on charges of cheating. Mallikarjun Reddy, 36, was an agent for Ekambaram, a vehicle financier in Teynampet. The latter gave Mallikarjun Reddy Rs. 24 lakh for procuring second hand motorcycles, but Mallikarjun Reddy made away with the money. Based on information that Mallikarjun Reddy was in Bangalore, a special team of the police went there and arrested him.
