It was talent unlimited at The Hindu Young World painting competition

MYSORE: Students dabbled with brush and paint to conjure up images that showed talent unlimited at The Hindu Young World Painting Competition 2006 held here on Sunday.

The competition evoked tremendous response from various schools in Mysore, Mandya, Hassan and Chamarajanagar districts. The contest was being held in the city of palaces for the first time.

Participants were categorised under juniors (class IV to class VII) and seniors (class VIII to Class X). The contest, which was sponsored by Lotte Booproo, was held at the JSS Public School, Gangotri campus. Participants for the contest were selected after a preliminary screening.

The students were allowed to choose from the following topics: "My favourite animal in the zoo" or "Playing with friends" for juniors and `Save the tree campaign in your schools' or `A scene at the bus stand' for seniors. Students were given two hours to complete the work.

Post noon, the judges — Basavaraj Musavalgi, Reader and Head of Department of Graphics, Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts (CAVA), and Binduraya R. Biradar, Head of Department, Applied Arts, CAVA, took over. After two rounds of scrutiny, they zeroed in on three winners and seven consolation prize winners from each category.

Swami Atmajnananadaji of Sri Ramakrishna Ashram and who is also the Editor of the Viveka Prabha magazine, was the chief guest and distributed the prizes. Earlier, N. Rajashekar, Regional General Manager, The Hindu , Bangalore, assured that future editions of the The Hindu Young World Painting Competition would be on a larger scale. G.R.Venkatesh, Assistant Regional General Manager, proposed a vote of thanks.

Following are the prize-winners:

Juniors: Meghana V. Raj, Vijaya English School, Hassan (1st prize); S. Sindhu, Ramakrishna Vidya Kendra, Mysore (2nd prize); S. Priyanka, SVEI Primary School, Mysore (3rd prize); consolation prizes were awarded to Akshita R Sethiya, Manasarovar Pushkarni Vidya Samsthe, Mysore; M. Jeevan, Vijaya Vittala Vidyashala, Mysore; Shilpa Shastry, Holy Mother English School, Hassan; R. Prakruthi, CFTRI School, Mysore; Nilesh Kumar Verma, Manasasarovar Pushkarni Vidya Samsthe, Mysore; Apoorva Janardhan, St. Joseph's Central School, Mysore; M.G. Greeshma, Sri Aravindo Convent, Hassan.

Seniors: Apoorva R. Shekar, Rotary West School, (1st prize); Manoj N. Pawar, Vijaya High School, Hassan, (2nd prize); Mumtaz Hussain, Marimallappa High School, Mysore, (3rd prize); Consolation prizes were awarded to M.P. Pragati, SVEI High School, Mysore; Vyshnavi, Sadvidya High School, Mysore; M. Shashidhar, CKS English Medium School, Hassan; S. Arpita, Marimallappa's High School, Mysore; M.S. Manju Shree, Sadvidya High School, Mysore, C. Pooja, SVEI School, Mysore; S.P. Harshita, Sadvidya High School, Mysore.
