Divija keeps winning

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: M. Divija of Andhra Pradesh, the top seed in both the under-14 and under-16 sections, made it to the summit round in both the events of the Glucovita AITA Super Series tennis championship at the KIMS courts here on Thursday.

In the under-16 section, Divija shrugged off a poor start to beat the fourth-seeded Rachita Sarda of Karnataka 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Remarkable comeback

She will fight it out with teammate M. Divya Rao, who staged a remarkable comeback win over the third seed Nova Patel of Gujarat 2-6, 6-3, 7-5.

Nova, after taking the first set easily, led 5-2 in the decider before a spate of unforced errors saw her lose grip. The steady-stroking Divya made most of her chances and took the next five games in a row to prevail at 7-5.

In the under-14 singles, Divija defeated the fourth-seeded Ratnika Batra of Delhi in a well-contested three setter at 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-1.

The results (semifinals): Boys: Under-16 singles: Kasa Vinayak Sarma (AP) bt Ronit Bisht (Del) 6-3, 6-2; Shabaz Khan (Mah) bt Chetan Pandit (AP) 6-1, 6-4. Under-14 singles: Chetan Pandit bt Shabaz Khan 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(6); Ronit Bisht bt Tushal Thawani (Mah) 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
