Lucky Vatnani enters snooker quarterfinals

HYDERABAD: Lucky Vatnani scored a 25-47, 51-10, 62-28, 51-28 victory against Niten Seren in the snooker pre-quarterfinal of the State open billiards and snooker tournament third-leg here on Thursday.

Sujith 78-12, 48-28, 67-16; Arvind bt Khaizar 73-1, 59-36, 59-46; Manish bt Jude Alexander 53-14, 45-13, 42-64, 53-44.

Satya scores hat-trick

M. Satya's hat-trick helped Zahir Memorial High School chalk up 4-0 win over Kendriya Vidyalaya in the third annual V. Purushotham memorial trophy inter-schools hockey tournament here. Md. Ateeq completed the tally for the winner.

In another match, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Public School (BHEL) scored a 2-1 win over Kendriya Vidyalaya (Uppal I). KV took the lead in the 14th minute through Sri Krishna. However, in the second half, Vasanth Roy equalised for BVBPS and Mushtaq netted the match-winner for BVB in the 50th minute.

Ivy League Academy scored a 2-0 victory against Hyderabad Public School (Begumpet). Charan Tej and Ramesh scored.

Koundinya triumphs

Koundinya won the IX standard category event in the third Twin Cities schools chess championship organised by the Magna Chess Academy here. V. Sri Harsha of Narayana Concept School clinched the honours in the VIII standard category, while Pawan Kumar and Mubhashir were joint-winners in the VII standard category.

Inter-district basketball

The Khammam District Basketball Association will organise the 32nd senior inter-district championship for men and women at Kothagudem from November 23 to 26 for all the affiliated units of the AP Basketball Association.

The tournament assumes significance as the State team probables will be selected for a coaching camp to be held at the Secunderabad YMCA from December 5. After the camp, the teams for the 57th senior Nationals to be held in Jaipur from December 28 to January 4 will be selected. For details, call 9440054888.

Chess tournament

The Andhra Pradesh Chess Association will organise the seventh Brilliant Trophy open prize money chess tournament for all categories on November 11 and 12 at the Brilliant Grammar School (Dilsukhnagar).

Trials to select the under-9 State team for the Sholapur Nationals from December 5 to 13 will also be held simultaneously. For details, call 9247399717.

Cricket tournament

The fifth Jai Bhagwathi floodlit cricket tournament will be organised at the Quli Qutub Shah Stadium from December 18 to 30. The event is exclusively for the members of the Agarwal Samaj and details can be had from Ph: 9885152131 or 9885290989.

Globetrotters' gesture

The Harlem Globetrotters will unveil a basketball on Friday at the Imax Theatre at 5:30 p.m. as part of their promotional campaign during their forthcoming visit to India and also as a run-up to the exhibition match they will play in Hyderabad on November 15.

Meet put off

The junior inter-district Sepak Takraw championship to be held in Warangal from November 10 has been postponed due to heavy rains. The new dates will be intimated later.

Kiran to lead

C. Kiran Prakash will lead APTRANSCO in the APTRANSCO and DISCOMS inter-circle volleyball tournament to be held in Nellore from November 11.

EcoR in final

At Visakhapatnam, East Coast Railway needed a tiebreaker to beat Sabari Sporting in the semifinal of the second Rail Cup football tournament at the Railway Stadium here on Thursday. It won 5-3.

In the final to be played on Friday, the host will meet Kaasim Sporting.

Sitaramaraju and M. Suman scored for East Coast Railway and Sabari Sporting during regulation time.

In the tiebreaker, Eswara Rao, V.V.G. Raju, T. Srinivas and Narayana Reddy found the mark for ECoR while T. Raju and B. Ganesh found the target for Sabari.

In the other semifinal, Srinivas scored two goals and Saidul Babu the other to give Kaasim Sporting a 3-0 victory over Coastal Andhra.
