Bangalore: Governor T.N. Chaturvedi has said that newspaper reports regarding his replacement by M.C. Bhandare are "without any basis and just a malicious rumour."
`No leave request'
It was reported in a section of the media that Mr. Chaturvedi had sought permission to go on long leave for medical reasons from January next, although his term ends only in August. A press release from the Raj Bhavan said that Mr. Chaturvedi was "healthy and well and has not applied for any leave nor has he expressed any opinion on not continuing in office after January 2007."
Surgery needed
The Governor needs corrective surgery on his leg owing to an earlier accident, which will need a few days of rest and recuperation. This may be done in Bangalore "because of the excellent medical facilities here," it said. There has been no request from the Governor's office for "either leave for His Excellency, the Governor or for a change in the dates of the address to the joint session of the Legislature," the release said.
Legislature session
The office had only asked for the dates of the session to ascertain and plan the Raj Bhavan's programme for the coming months, the release added.
