Big challenge

The editorial `Challenge and response' (Oct. 31) highlights the most pertinent aspect the fight against terrorism requires — addressing political, economic, and geo-strategic concerns. The success of the counter-terrorism efforts in Tripura despite the adverse terrain and the poor infrastructure should encourage other States. The swift acts of the Mysore police and the Intelligence Bureau saved the country from what could have been a horrific act of terrorism. Surveillance measures on all fronts should be upgraded. Fighting state-sponsored terrorism requires immense resources and this is the real challenge before the country.

It is good to see the IB rising to the occasion. The internal and external security agencies were very vigilant and they deftly averted a major terrorist attack. It is better to be safe than sorry, after all.
