Alleged KLF terrorist arrested in Punjab

PATHANKOT: A terrorist belonging to Sikh separatist outfit Khalistan Liberation Force was on Wednesday arrested from Gurdaspur district for allegedly harbouring two of the accused in Beant Singh assassination case after their escape from a Chandigarh jail, a senior police official said.

Nishan Singh was arrested at Batala Road in Kalanaur, Gurdaspur Senior Superintendent of Police Paramraj Singh Umranangal told reporters.

Jagtar Singh Hawara and Paramjeet Singh Bheora, both accused in the assassination case of former Chief Minister Beant Singh, had stayed with Nishan Singh after their escape from Burail jail in Chandigarh over two years ago and hatched a conspiracy to revive terrorism in Punjab, police claimed.

Nishan Singh was a member of various terrorist outfits having their base abroad, including in Pakistan, Umranangal said.

The arrested militant was produced in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate at Gurdaspur who remanded him to police custody till November 22. - PTI
