Three escape from observation home

Thiruvananthapuram: A 30-year-old caretaker of the Government-run Observation Home in Poojappura was injured when he attempted to prevent three inmates from escaping on Sunday night. The police identified the injured caretaker as B. Sudheeran. He has been admitted to the General Hospital. The incident occurred around 8.30 p.m. According to police, three juveniles, who were housed at the home, pushed the caretaker and beat him when he tried to prevent them from running away. One of them had asked permission to go to the terrace of the building to retrieve his shirt, which he had left to dry on the clothesline. The police said the two other inmates followed him and the three made their escape together. The police have launched a citywide search for the children. - Staff Report

Youth held

Thiruvananthapuram: The police have arrested a 19-year-old youth on the charge of attempting to break into a house at Karamana. The accused was identified as Kannan, a resident of Tamil Nadu. According to police, he attempted to break into the house of Mansoor in the early hours of Sunday. He was produced before the magistrate and remanded to 14 days in judicial custody. - Staff Reporter

Injured in lightning

Thiruvananthapuram: A seven-year-old girl was injured when lightning struck her home at Kuttichal late on Sunday night. The injured girl was identified as Nandana, daughter of Surendran of Sethunilayam. According to a spokesperson at the Medical College Hospital here, Nandana sustained an injury on her leg when a bolt of lightning splintered a tile on the floor of the house. The child, who was in a state of shock, was reported to be in a medically stable condition. . - Staff Reporter

Hurt in accident

Thiruvananthapuram: Seven persons were injured when the car in which they were travelling overturned at Chakka bypass road on Sunday evening.

The injured - Priyan, 19, Vijith, 16, Shanu, 21, Manoj, 24, Ajith, 24, Sam Pradeep, 21, and Mahesh, 17 - are under observation at the casualty wing of Medical College Hospital.
