Thiruvananthapuram: The body of noted Sanskrit scholar P.C. Devasia, 101, who passed away here on Tuesday, was laid to rest at the Holy Cross Church, Muttada on Wednesday evening. Author of 21 books, Prof. Devasia is known best for `Christu Bhagawatham,' a Sanskrit epic poem based on the life of Jesus Christ. The work won him national acclaim, including the Kendra Sahitya Akademi award. He has also received the Panditaratnam Award instituted by the Viswa Samskriti Prathishtanam and the D.Litt degree awarded by the Lal Bahadur Sastri Vidya Peetam. In his long career spanning 35 years, Prof. Devasia taught at St. Thomas College, Thrissur and Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram. Prof. Devasia is survived by two sons and three daughters.
